CHAPTER NINE

Finn was stunned. All this time the Cynn Cruors had been looking for Dac and the Scatha Cruors, and because of one girl, they were closer to catching Dac than ever before.

Correction.

One woman.

One intelligent and desirably hot woman.

Finn gave Eirene a hard kiss, pouring all of his joy and gratitude into it.

“Thank you.” Finn stood to fish his phone from his jeans pocket. Roarke answered on the second ring.

“You better have a damn good explanation for not bringing Eirene here last night.”

“We found Dac.”

“No shit.”

“Yes shit.” Finn wasn't in the mood for Roarke's skepticism right now. Getting a team to Dac's location trumped everything else.

“How?”

“Eirene placed a tracking code on the program she made for Dac as a precautionary measure,” Finn replied.

“Precautionary measure? Against what?”

“Against breach of contract.” Finn said. “She does it for every client Devon sends her way. It's also her way to make sure that the program she gives them actually fixes the problem.”

“You’re serious?”

“I don’t fool around about Dac, Roarke.”

Roarke whistled.

“Impressive.”

“That's what I told her,” Finn replied.

“He won't be able to move until later. The sun's too hot for him to leave his sanctuary, but it’s also too hot for us to be able to attack.”

Finn heard Roarke's frustration.

“I will get a message to the other Faestens and see if they have any Cynn mortals visiting Manchester at the moment and find out if they can spare several to help with capturing Dac.”

“If we wait too long he will disappear.”

“The sun's too bright, mate. Let us know where he will be and we'll have the Cynn mortals watch the place until we get there.”

“I'll go.”

“How the hell are you going?” Roarke snapped in exasperation. “By the time you get to wherever the hell Dac is you'd be boiling in your own blood.”

Finn swore as he knew Roarke was right. The fact that he had to stay in Eirene's dark office drove his brother's point home. But he couldn't let Dac get away. He closed his eyes and saw the vague images of his mother and father before they had left the Abbey and the sacrifice they’d made. He couldn't fail his parents.

He wouldn't.

“Let the Cynn mortals watch the place for us until the sun sets.” Finn reluctantly agreed. “We'll text you the coordinates.”

“We?” There was quiet curiosity in Roarke's voice.

Finn didn't bother answering Roarke's question. At the moment he couldn't answer his friend and brother because he didn't know what was happening himself. He had never felt so alive with a woman as he did with Eirene, and it was scaring him. Eirene was a critical piece of the puzzle, only this puzzle. They needed to find Valerian and not lose the chance of ending the war between the Cynn Cruors and the Scatha Cruors. That was all. Afterwards Eirene would disappear from his life.

Then why did that thought bother him? Didn't he want Eirene to disappear from his existence so he could concentrate on his mission? He scowled as he tried to concentrate on what was important.
